Mathematics 402a/b Linear Algebra III

Advanced topics in linear algebra: linear functionals and dual spaces; determinants; eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalizable and triangulable operators, similarity, rational and Jordan canonical forms, invariant factors; bilinear, quadratic and Hermitian forms, congruence; positive forms and operators; inner product spaces, orthogonal and unitary operators, self-adjoint and normal operators, the spectral theorem.

Prerequisite: Mathematics 303b.
3 lecture hours, half course.
