MME 479a/b Fracture Mechanics

Introduction to fracture mechanics in brittle and ductile solids. Measurement of fracture toughness. Microstructural effects in fracture processes. Fatigue, creep failure and environmentally influenced crack propagation in a variety of materials.

Antirequisite: The former ES 479a/b.
Prerequisites: Applied Mathematics 275 or 276 or 277 or permission of the Department.
3 lecture hours, 1.5 laboratory hours, half course.
