Course Description

Philosophy 279F/G Philosophy of Education

An examination of what knowledge is, how we acquire it, and whether there are moral and immoral ways of acquiring it. Consideration of whether education differs from indoctrination, of the role of free enquiry in education, and of what educational systems are more likely to increase knowledge, virtue, or freedom.

Antirequisite: Philosophy 123, 139E and the former 179f/g.
