Course Description

Biology 303 Biophysical Analysis

(Given by the Department of Medical Biophysics.) Applying methods of physics, engineering, and mathematics to biological mechanisms. Emphasis on modelling, and on problem solving. Special topics include: biological feedback the pupillary reflex, and control of cortisol release, oxygenation of the cornea, video analysis of red cell distribution in the capillaries.

Prerequisites: Calculus 050a/b plus one of 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027, and Physics 020, 024 or 025. Open to second-year students with at least a 78% average in first year.
2 lecture hours, 2 laboratory/tutorial hours.
