Course Description

Physics 243b Electricity, Magnetism and Waves

Coulomb's Law, electric fields, Gauss' Law, electric potential, and EMF, magnetic field and flux, the Biot-Savart Law, Ampere's Law and Faraday's Law of Induction, Kirchhoff's rules in DC circuits. Physical optics include consideration of electromagnetic waves, reflection, refraction, polarization, interference and diffraction. Particularly suitable for Chemistry students.

Antirequisites: The former Physics 242a, 251a, 256a.
Prerequisite: Physics 020, 022, 024 or 025.
3 lecture hours, 3 laboratory hours in alternate weeks, half course.
