Course Description

International and Comparative Studies 015a/b Basic Chinese

A continuation of International and Comparative Studies 014a/b. The focus of the course is on oral and written Mandarin. Students will learn approximately 250 characters, 30 or so sentence structures and basic grammar and will be able to write short passages and conduct brief, informal dialogues. The course prepares students for progression to International and Comparative Studies 027. Available only to students with no prior background in any Chinese dialect or written Chinese.

Antirequisites: International and Comparative Studies 007, or the former Modern Eastern Civilizations 005, 007.
Prerequisite: OAC Mandarin or International and Comparative Studies 014a/b or the former Modern Eastern Civilizations 014.
