Course Description

Philosophy 354E Logic, Language and Metaphysics

This course is designed to provide an understanding of some of the most discussed contemporary issues in logic, language and metaphysics, including such topics as the nature of truth, speech act theory and its developments, theories of meaning, the relations between language and meta- language, and the significance of paradoxes and self-referentiality. Readings will be drawn from such authors as austin, Searle, Grice Tarski, Rorty, Davidson, Derrida, Lyotard, and Deleuze. Prerequisite:Third or fourth year honors Philosophy status.
