Course Description

Earth Sciences 200a Plate Tectonics and Lithology

Rock types and their distribution within the crust of the Earth are in large part a function of tectonics, including subduction, obduction, uplift and collapse. Lectures synthesize and explain major rock types in primary and secondary tectonic settings. Laboratories examine rocks and textures.

Antirequisite: The former Geology 200b.
Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 020 or equivalent; or permission of the Department.
2 lecture hours, 3 laboratory hours, half course.
