Course Description

Earth Sciences 350y Field Mapping - Geology and Geophysics

A basic field course emphasizing mapping of igneous and metamorphic tectonites, using geological and geophysical techniques. Field-related database software, and software for interpretation of remote sensing data will be used, and geophysical experiments will be conducted involving gravity, magnetism, VLF, EM, IP, and seismics.

Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 200a, 201a, 206b, 260a/b, 220b, 320a, and the former Earth Sciences 210.
2 weeks field work in May, half course.
Note: Registration may be limited to programs where Earth Sciences 350y is a required course; students must register prior to the September "Add" deadline for full-year courses (see Undergraduate Sessional Dates). Partial cost of the field expenses ($225 in 2001, but subject to change) must be borne by the student, and is payable to the department upon registration. Students should consult the Department Office for details, early in the Fall term.
