Course Description

Earth Sciences 402a/b Advanced Structural Geology

This course provides an overview of the principal processes and products of rock deformation. Major topics covered are rheology, stress and strain, ductile deformation, strain analysis, veins and crystal fibres, petrofabrics, microstructures and kinematic indicators, symmetry of strain, ductile shear zones, brittle deformation.

Prerequisite: Earth Sciences 201a or permission of the Department.
2 lecture hours, 3 laboratory hours, half course.
