Course Description

English 212 Old English Language and Literature

The language and literature of pre-conquest England. Students begin by studying basic Old English grammar and simple prose to illustrate the nature of the language. After mastering the rudiments of syntax, students are equipped to analyze the poetry of the period, including Beowulf.

Antirequisite: The former English 220.
Prerequisites: At least 60% in English 020E, 022E, 024E or the former 026, and at least 60% in all subsequent English courses, or permission of the Department.
