Course Description

English 300E Theories of Literature and Culture

The course considers a wide range of modern theoretical approaches to literature and culture. Readings are drawn from nineteenth-century philosophy and aesthetics, formalism, New Criticism, archetypal criticism, psychoanalysis, structuralism, deconstruction and poststructuralism, reader-response theory, phenomenology, genre theory, Marxism, New Historicism, gender theory, cultural theory, and postcolonial theory.

Prerequisite: English 200 and at least one other Honors course in English.
3 lecture hours.
