Course Description

ES 384a/b Finite Element Methods In Engineering

Linear finite element analysis including equilibrium through the principle of virtual work, two dimensional plane stress and plane strain elements, two dimensional elements for steady state field problems, assembly of stiffness matrices and the imposition of boundary conditions, isoparametric formulation, natural coordinates and numerical integration, numerical solution of equilibrium equations.

Prerequisites: Computer Science 026a/b or the former ES 030, Applied Mathematics 275 or 277, CEE 340a/b or the former ES 343a/b, or the former ES 302a, or ES 320.
2 lecture hours, 2 laboratory hours, half course.
