FACULTY OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA STUDIES

DIPLOMA IN HONORS STANDING

The Diploma in Honors Standing (DHS) is a means of granting recognition to those students of honors caliber who did not follow one of the regular MIT Honors programs but who have successfully completed all of the graduation requirements of such a program in some other fashion. Students who have been awarded a three or four-year BA by Western or another accredited university may be eligible to pursue the DHS.

Students interested in the DHS should first apply for admission under the Special Student category and should then contact the Faculty of Information and Media Studies once all supporting documentation has been received by the University. FIMS will evaluate the student's record and prescribe course work to be completed in order to fulfill the Honors program requirements. The prescribed program will require a minimum of 5.0 full-course equivalents in MIT and may require more than the equivalent of one academic year. The admission, progression and graduation requirements in the DHS are the same as those for the equivalent Honors program in MIT.

Combinations

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies allows students to take a BA Honors in MIT and the equivalent of another general area of concentration after first year. Approved combinations include Honors MIT with an area of concentration in History or Economics. The Faculty of Arts may allow students to combine Honors programs with MIT as well. Students must meet both the Honors BA and the three-year BA requirements for admission, progression and graduation. Similar combinations may be available at the affiliated colleges.
