ACADEMIC INFORMATION

PROGRESSION REQUIREMENTS

A grade point total of at least 6 must be achieved on the first five full courses attempted. A grade point total of at least 14 must be achieved on the first ten full courses. Not more than five unsatisfactory attempts in full courses or full-course equivalents may be accumulated.

Students in 3-year BA or BSc programs must complete graduation requirements within the first 20 courses attempted, including repeated courses.

Students who fail to meet the above requirements will be required to withdraw from the university for a minimum of twelve months from the end of the session from which they were required to withdraw. The Dean of the student's Faculty can waive this regulation in exceptional cases. In such a case, it shall be the Dean's responsibility to specify the requirements for regaining satisfactory standing on the regular progression ladder and to notify the Registrar in writing of that decision.

Should an appeal be made to Senate on the ruling of a Dean, such an appeal shall be considered on behalf of Senate by the Senate Review Board Academic (SRBA). See STUDENT ACADEMIC APPEALS section (Pointer

Students registered in a Fall/Winter Session, who have applied to register for courses in Intersession or Summer Evening Session but have not been advised of their ineligibility for further registration by the first day of classes, will be permitted to complete any such course(s). Although credit will be retained for courses completed successfully, such credit will not alter ineligibility for further registration. Any such student, required to withdraw for failure to achieve the minimum progression requirements, will not become eligible for further registration before the Summer Day Session in the subsequent year.

When a student has attempted 4 or 4.5 courses and the grade point total accumulated is 4 or fewer, registration as a full-time student must be authorized by the Dean of the Faculty in which the student proposes to register.

When the number of courses attempted exceeds 5 but does not reach 10, courses previously attempted plus sufficient of the courses of the current session will be counted in a manner most advantageous to the student to reach 5 attempts with a minimum of 6 grade points.

When a student has completed 9 or 9.5 courses and the grade point total is 12 or fewer, registration as a full-time student must be authorized by the Dean of the Faculty in which the student proposes to register.

When the number of courses attempted exceeds 10, eligibility for further registration will be calculated on the basis of courses previously attempted plus sufficient of the courses of the current session counted in a manner most advantageous to the student to reach a total of 10 attempts with a minimum of 14 grade points.

No student may accumulate more than a total of 20 course attempts prior to fulfilling the basic graduation requirements (15 passes, with an average of at least 60%). In exceptional circumstances, further attempts may be authorized by the Dean of the Faculty concerned, but only if the cumulative average on successful attempts is at least 60%.
