FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Self-Administered "Application for Admission" Forms are available from the graduate program in which the applicant intends to pursue studies. To apply for admission, the applicant should arrange to send the following documents to the appropriate program in one self-administered application package (www.uwo.ca/grad):

  1. A completed "Application for Admission" Form.
  2. Two official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies. The transcripts should be in envelopes sealed by the issuing institution. Some institutions will not provide transcripts in sealed envelopes. In this case, the applicant must complete a transcript label (enclosed in the application package) and instruct each institution to attach the label to his or her record and forward it directly to the appropriate program.
  3. Two letters of recommendation in sealed and signed envelopes.
  4. Official proof of proficiency in English, if required.
  5. Any other documents required by the particular program such as GRE test results.

Many programs require a non-refundable application fee to accompany the application. Applicants should check with the program concerned for details.

No application will be considered until it is complete. The responsibility rests with the applicant to ensure that all documents (e.g., transcripts, letters of recommendation, language test results such as TOEFL scores, GRE scores) are submitted by the deadline for application. Applicants who have graduated from a university outside of North America may be asked to provide a description of all courses taken in their areas of specialization and cognate fields.

Completed applications are evaluated by the program, which then makes recommendations concerning admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Applicants may receive information and provisional offers of admission from personnel in the programs concerned; however, such offers are contingent upon approval by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The program concerned will notify any applicants who are not recommended to or admitted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Students whose application has been approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies will be sent a formal Offer of Admission issued by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Application Deadlines, unless otherwise specified by the program concerned, appear at the beginning of this Calendar. These deadlines represent the date by which the program must submit the approved applications to the Faculty of Graduate Studies office for final approval. Applicants, therefore, should ensure that their complete applications, as described above, are submitted to the appropriate program well in advance of any deadlines set by the program and of the dates shown in the Academic Calendar.
