Course Description

Statistical Sciences 257a Probability

Elementary probability and its axioms, conditional probability and independence, random variables and their distributions, moments and moment generating functions, sums of independent random variables, law of large numbers, central limit theorem.

Antirequisite: The former Mathematics 206a.
Prerequisite: A minimum grade of "C" in one of Calculus 050a/b plus either 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027.
3 lecture hours, half course.
