Course Description

Earth Sciences 324a/b Physical Properties of Materials

Elasticity: interatomic potential, lattice anharmonicity, elastic moduli, stress/strain, equations of state. Mechanical properties of solids (hardness, fracture and fatigue) and liquids (viscosity and surface tension). Thermal properties and heat transfer mechanisms. Electrical properties and change transport mechanisms. Special topics in applications of material properties.

Prerequisite: Physics 208.
2 lecture hours, half-course.
