Course Description

Earth Sciences 330b Chemistry of the Earth

The Periodic Table and properties of the elements related to geological processes. Bulk composition and mineralogy of the core, mantle and crust, their formation and evolution. Major, trace and isotopic mass balances among major geochemical reservoirs; bulk chemical and mineralogical consequences of geological processes in igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic environments.

Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 230b and 310a/b; or permission of the Department.
Corequisites: Earth Sciences 312a and 314b; or permission of the Department.
2 lecture hours, 3 laboratory hours, half course.
