Course Description

English 288E British Drama: Restoration to Victorian

Survey of major developments in British dramatic literature from the re-opening of the theatres in 1660 to the advent of modern British drama in the late nineteenth century. Traces the generic evolution from heroic drama to Victorian melodrama, from Restoration comedy to Victorian comedy.

Antirequisite: The former English 242E.
Prerequisites: At least 60% in English 020E, 022E, 024E or the former 026, and at least 60% in all subsequent English courses, or permission of the Department.
