Effective September, 2002, the School of Physical Therapy will offer the new Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program. This MPT program will replace the BScPT program. Application deadline for the MPT program is January 15, 2002. BSc (PT) Program

Third Year

Physical Therapy 415a, 420a, 451a, either 490 or 491Z

Physical Therapy Practicum 482

Electives: As required to achieve a full course load (five courses)

Physical Therapy electives: 401a, 402a, 403a, 407a, 408a, 409a, 410a, 425a, 450a, 475a

Note: Not all Physical Therapy electives are offered every year.

Academic Regulations

Progression in the program will be based on each year's achievement, the minimum for which is:

an overall course average of 70%, with a mark of at least 60% in each principal course (physical therapy subjects), and satisfactory clinical performance (as outlined in the Guidelines for Clinical Placements);

80% attendance at lecture and laboratory courses and 100% attendance in clinical placements.

Tests, assignments and practical work, as well as performance in final examinations will constitute the final mark in each course.

A student who fails a course (a course may be of one-half or one full credit) or who fails to meet the progression requirements as noted above, will normally be considered to have failed the year and will be required to withdraw from the program. Such students may petition the School on medical or compassionate grounds for relief from the requirement to withdraw. Should such a request be granted, the School will review each individual case and determine the conditions to be met by the student to remain in the program.

Examinations

Examinations may be oral, subjective, objective or practical. Final examinations and mid-year tests will be held in the weeks designated by Senate.

Supplemental examinations will not be offered by the School of Physical Therapy.

The privilege of a special examination may be granted by the Director of the School for illness or compassionate reasons.

Graduation "With Distinction"

Any student who fails a placement in a clinical course (PT 282, 382, and 482), and who is required to undertake a remedial placement, cannot graduate "with distinction," even if the remedial placement is successfully completed at a later date.

Flexible Start Date

Note: The School of Physical Therapy has the flexibility to start the clinical placement course Physical Therapy 482 at the start of the hospital/clinic work-week in situations where the official back to class date falls in mid-week.

Physical Therapists must be licensed or registered in order to practice physical therapy in Canada. Registration requirements vary in each province with some including passing the Physiotherapy National Examination. Obtain up-to-date information on the regulations governing the profession from:
