FACULTY OF MUSIC
These programs are intended to give a general background in music without a professional orientation. Both programs offer more flexibility than Bachelor of Music programs, including the possibility of electing 50% of the courses from areas other than Music.
Six approved OAC credits, including OAC1 English, one of which may be OAC Music or equivalent Conservatory certificates (Grade IX vocal or instrumental with Grade III Theory).
Recommendation of the Faculty on the basis of an interview (evidence of ability to manage the curriculum, usually manifest in at least Grade VI performing ability; an audition may be required). The Faculty contacts each applicant regarding specific requirements and dates. Conservatory certificates are not required.
Piano proficiency at the Grade VI level is strongly recommended before entrance. See Music 014 in the UNDERGRADUATE COURSE INFORMATION section.
* Students who cannot demonstrate competence in theory rudiments, melody writing and elementary harmony will be required to acquire such competence, by taking Music 001a or through independent study, prior to enroling in Music 049a/b. Students who can demonstrate an advanced level of competence in harmony may be granted prerequisite standing for Music 049a/b and may enrol in Music 050a/b.
† Music 024 and senior courses offered by the Departments of Music Performance Studies and Music Education may not be elected but may be transferred to the BA programs if completed while the student is registered in a BMus or BMusA program.
