Course Description

Anthropology 411F/G Language and Politics.

Using techniques of discourse analysis, the course focuses on the performance of persons, communities and structures as they express their positions. In so doing, it re-examines traditional analytic concepts such as law, power and hegemonic decision-making on the one side, and agency, identity, community, and representation on the other.

Antirequisite: Political Science 411F
Prerequisite: Fourth year Honours standing in Anthropology, or permission of the department.
2 lecture hours, 1 laboratory hour. Half course.
