Course Description

Biology 216b Evolutionary Survey of the Plant Kingdom

The diversity of plant life is surveyed beginning with the origin of life and continuing through the photosynthetic bacteria, green algae, bryophytes, ferns, conifers and flowering plants. Emphasis is placed on typical life history, structure, characteristic physiology and ecology; also the major evolutionary innovations and feedback on the biosphere.

Prerequisite: Biology 022 or 023.
5 lecture/laboratory hours, half course.
