Course Description

Sociology 271a/b Survey of Contemporaryy Theory

Continuities in sociological thiking will be stressed by building upon the insights of the discipline's founding thinkers, while simultaneously exposing students to the rich variety that characterizes contemporary theorizing. Among other approaches, structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism, Marxism, critical theory, feminist theory, and post-modernism will be discussed.

Prerequisite: Sociology 270a/b
