HONORS SPECIALIZATION IN ECONOMICS


Admission Requirements

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% with no mark less than 60% in 3.0 principal courses, including an average of 70% and no grades less than 60% in the following 2.0 courses: Economics 020; Mathematics 030 or Calculus 050a/b and 0.5 course from: Calculus 051a/b, 081a/b or Linear Algebra 040a/b.


Module

9.0 courses:

3.0 courses normally taken in second year: Economics 220a/b, 221a/b, 222a/b, 223a/b, 260a/b, 261a/b
1.5 courses normally taken in third year: Economics 210a/b, 320a/b, 382a/b
1.0 course normally taken in third year from: Economics 288F/G, 289F/G, 311F/G, 324F/G, 325F/G, 326F/G, 327F/G, 376F/G, 377F/G, 384F/G, 385F/G
1.5 courses normally taken in fourth year: Economics 388a/b, 400E
2.0 additional courses in Economics at the 300 level

Students who have completed Economics 122a/b, 123a/b, 150a/b, 151a/b, 152a/b, 153a/b with an average of 75% and no grade less than 70% may be admitted to the Honors Specialization in Economics and will be exempt from taking Economics 222a/b, 223a/b, 260a/b, 261a/b, 220a/b or 221a/b, respectively.


Admission Requirements for students entering Year 4 or with a previous degree

3.5 courses: Economics 122a/b, 123a/b, 141a/b, 150a/b, 151a/b, 152a/b, 153a/b with an average of at least 75% with no grade less than 70%
1.0 course from: Economics 116a/b, 117a/b, 124a/b, 125a/b, 126F/G, 127F/G, 128a/b, 196a/b, 197a/b with no grade less than 70%
0.5 course from: Economics 154a/b, 155a/b, 156a/b, 157F/G, 159a/b, 160a/b, 161F/G, 163a/b, 164a/b, 165F/G, 171F/G, 176F/G, 182F/G, 184a/b with no grade less than 70%


Module

5.0 courses:

2.5 courses: Economics 320a/b, 382a/b, 388a/b, 400E
1.5 additional courses in Economics at the 300 level
1.0 additional course at the 200 level in any Department with a grade of at least 60%

Note: Students who have completed a degree from another university will be required to complete at least 10.0 courses from Western.
