Description: An introduction to the relationship between the microstructure and engineering properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, semi-conductors and composites.

Description: Analysis of forces on structures and machines, including addition and resolution of forces and moments in two and three-dimensions. The application of the principles of equilibrium. Topics: trusses; frames; friction; and centroids.

Description: Designing, implementing and testing computer programs using a modern object-oriented language such as C++ to fulfill given specifications for small problems using sound engineering principles and processes. ES 050, Introductory Engineering Design and Innovation Studio
Description: Introduction to the principles and practices of professional engineering. The design studio fosters innovative thinking, improves problem solving, and provides context. Includes elements of need recognition, conceptualization, prototyping, and engineering design to satisfy commercial specifications. Emphasis on creativity, teamwork, communication and engineering skills necessary to practice in any engineering discipline.
Antirequisite(s): The former ES 025 and the former ES 029a/b.

ES 300y, Selected Experiments in Integrated Engineering
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide Integrated Engineering students with some of the practical technical aspects of mechanical engineering. The scope is three-fold. First, the students gain experience with the instrumentation and techniques used to quantify physical phenomena. Second, the skills required to analyse and present experimental data are developed and, third, the experiments provide physical expression of the concepts developed during lecture courses.
Antirequisite(s): MME 385y.
Prerequisite(s): CEE 202a/b, MME 204a/b, CBE 221a/b, or the former CBE 203b.
Corequisite(s): CBE 322a/b, MME 213a/b, Statistical Sciences 241a/b or 243a/b, enrolment in the Integrated Engineering program.

Description: This course will provide engineering undergraduate students with a meaningful placement providing practical professional learning experience in Canada or abroad. Students will be supervised by a practicing engineer and/or suitable aid agency personnel and are required to submit performance evaluations and to write a final report on the work performed. Recognition of this work experience will be indicated by a transcript notation on the student's academic record.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of second year of Civil Engineering Option F.

Description: Topics include: the impact of technological innovation; a critical overview of selected emerging technologies; effective strategies for marketing new technologies; choosing an entrepreneurial career; and starting a new venture, including market research, business planning, team building, and financing. Students may be required to complete and present a detailed business plan.
Pre- or Corequisite(s): Business Administration 257 or 299, or permission of the department.
