REGULATIONS OF THE FACULTY OF LAW

The Faculty of Law is recognized and approved by the Law Society of Upper Canada, which governs admission to the practice of law.

The Faculty of Law offers a 3-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Laws, and several special and combined programs. The Faculty is strongly committed to excellence and diversity. While the Faculty believes that excellence in academic studies is the best evidence of the ability to succeed in law school, it also believes that achievements in other areas may indicate potential of success in legal studies. Accordingly, our application policies allow applicants to show their potential in a variety of ways and are designed to produce a mix of students with diverse backgrounds.

The Faculty does not prescribe a program of pre-legal studies, nor does it recommend specific undergraduate courses for those intending to enter law school. Applicants are advised to treat their previous program of studies as an end in itself in the event that they should not be admitted to the study of law. A solid academic background is an advantage in the practice and study of law. We strongly recommend courses designed to develop reading and writing skills, skills that should be enhanced before entering law school.
