Canadian Studies 2200E - First Nations to Many Nations

A full year course surveying a range of Canadian topics stressing Canada’s evolution as a socially complex community of diverse peoples. The significance of how class, gender, race, ethnicity and region contribute to a dynamic process of identity construction will be explored using literature, film, music and interdisciplinary scholarship.

Prerequisite(s): Political Science 1020E with a minimum of 60%, and 1.0 first year course in Economics, English, French, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, or Social Justice and Peace Studies.

Canadian Studies 3300E - The Construction of Canada as a Community of Communities

This seminar course concentrates on the major political, historical, sociological and literary debates regarding the formation and maintenance of a multicultural and bilingual community. What features denote Canada as a community or communities? Themes will vary depending on instructor.
