Engineering Science 1050 - Introductory Engineering Design and Innovation Studio 
Introduction to the principles and practices of professional engineering. The design studio fosters innovative thinking, improves problem solving, and provides context. Includes elements of need recognition, conceptualization, prototyping, and engineering design to satisfy commercial specifications. Emphasis on creativity, teamwork, communication and engineering skills necessary to practice in any engineering discipline.

Engineering Science 2299A/B - Integrated Engineering Design I
Introduction to team-based interdisciplinary design, with emphasis on design innovation based on emerging technologies. Students will follow a disciplined design process to identify design opportunities and research emerging technologies, generate and evaluate several concepts, and prepare a detailed design proposal to further develop the most promising concept.

Engineering Science 3300Y - Selected Experiments in Integrated Engineering
The purpose of this course is to provide Integrated Engineering students with some of the practical technical aspects of mechanical engineering. The scope is three-fold. First, the students gain experience with the instrumentation and techniques used to quantify physical phenomena. Second, the skills required to analyse and present experimental data are developed and, third, the experiments provide physical expression of the concepts developed during lecture courses.

This course will provide engineering undergraduate students with a meaningful placement providing practical professional learning experience in Canada or abroad. Students will be supervised by a practicing engineer and/or suitable aid agency personnel and are required to submit performance evaluations and to write a final report on the work performed. Recognition of this work experience will be indicated by a transcript notation on the student's academic record.

Topics include: the impact of technological innovation; a critical overview of selected emerging technologies; effective strategies for marketing new technologies; choosing an entrepreneurial career; and starting a new venture, including market research, business planning, team building, and financing.
