Social Science (SS)
Social Science 3990 - Summer Internship
Preparatory workshops and a 4-month placement with a government, private sector or non-governmental organization to provide a practical learning experience in the summer following second or third year. Admission is competitive. Students will write a final report on work undertaken.

Antirequisite(s):
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the Faculty of Social Science. Applicants must have an average of at least 70% and be enrolled in a Social Science Major or Specialization module.

Pre-or Corequisite(s):
Extra Information: Non-credit, pass/fail.
Notes:   • This course cannot be included in the number of courses counted towards any degree or program.   • Students will take the course in summer, May-August.   • Only full-time students are eligible.   • Students may not take any academic courses during the internship. Following their work term, they must be returning to full-time undergraduate studies.   • Successful completion of this course will be recognized on a student’s transcript.   • International students may participate in a summer co-op in Canada if they have a valid study permit and a Social Insurance Number.

Social Science 3999A/B/Y - Experiential Learning
Experiential--or service--learning (learning through practical experience) opportunities, which result in tangible and quantifiable academic value, may be recognized for course credit. Students must seek conditional approval.
Detailed criteria for course credit will be determined by the Dean or designate, in consultation with appropriate department(s).
Antirequisite(s): Experiential Learning courses offered by any Faculty/School.
Prerequisite(s): Registration in the Faculty of Social Science and permission of the Dean.

Pre-or Corequisite(s):
Extra Information: 0.5 course, Pass/Fail.
Note: Students must receive approval of the Dean (or designate) and reach mutual agreement on a detailed study/research/work plan, prior to the experiential or service learning opportunity. The Dean, in consultation with appropriate departmental advisors (if necessary) will provide the student with detailed criteria, including a timetable of submission deadlines, which must be fulfilled in order to gain credit for the course. No credit will be given without prior approval of the Dean and a failing grade will be assigned if students do not fulfill the pre-approved reporting arrangement.
