As President of The University of Western Ontario, I am pleased to welcome you to our campus and to congratulate you on a new and challenging period in your life. Western’s faculty, staff, and your fellow students share the excitement as a new academic year begins for us all.

You have chosen – and been chosen – to join a vibrant learning community, offering programs ranging from broad introductory courses to advanced graduate and professional studies, within an environment which stresses scholarship and academic achievement. Western’s Academic Choices program gives students the opportunity to
combine subject areas in more flexible and exciting ways, creating courses of study responsive to your own interests and talents. Our outstanding faculty and staff are committed to providing an academic experience of the highest quality in superbly equipped classrooms, laboratories and libraries across the campus.

The University community also provides important support for personal development outside your academic program, through cultural and recreational opportunities, extracurricular activities, clubs and student government. You will have a strong network of support services, counsellors, mentors, peers and friends to share in your first-year experience at Western.
