| English 211 History of the English Language |

A study of the historical development of English sounds, spelling, grammar and vocabulary from the Old English to the modern period, with some attention to the qualities of the language as a medium of literature and culture. |
| Antirequisite: The former English 222. |
| Prerequisites: At least 60% in English 020E, 022E, 024E or the former 026, and at least 60% in all subsequent English courses, or permission of the Department. |
