FOUR-YEAR BSc HONORS KINESIOLOGY

The Bachelor of Science Honors Kinesiology program commences at second year. Normally, a student must satisfactorily complete a five-course first year program which meets University regulations and includes Kinesiology 021. To be considered for progression to second year, students must also earn a principal course average (Kinesiology 021 plus the three principal science courses) of at least 70% with no principal course mark lower than 60%.

First Year Required Courses

Kinesiology 021
Three full-course equivalents from the following subjects areas: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, as indicated below:
Biology 022 or 023;
Chemistry 020 or 023;
Mathematics 030 or 031 or two of: Calculus 050a/b, 051a/b or 081a/b, or Linear Algebra 040a/b;
Physics 020, 022, 024, 025;
two of Computer Science 025a, 026a/b, 027a/b
One full-course equivalent from the faculties of Arts or Social Science

Notes

  1. Biology at the OAC level, or a first year Biology course (Biology 022 or 023), is a prerequisite for second year of the BSc Honors Kinesiology program.
  2. Students are advised to review the prerequisites for honors-level (200 and above) science courses to ensure appropriate first year science course selections.

Second Year

Normally, students must earn a mark of at least 60% in each principal course (required courses), an average for those courses of at least 70% and a passing grade in each course listed as a subsidiary or optional course, for progression consideration each year.

Principal Courses

A total of three and one-half or four full-course equivalent Kinesiology courses to be selected as follows:
Two half-courses from Kinesiology 200a, 201b, Dance 275a/b, 276a/b, 277a/b
Kinesiology 230a/b, 241a/b
Anatomy 221
A minimum of one half-course to a maximum of two half-courses from Kinesiology 202-299.

Note: Prior to graduation, all BSc (Honors Kinesiology) students must complete a minimum of one half-course from any of Kinesiology 250a/b, 263F/G, 280a/b, 288a/b, 290F/G, 293F/G, 298a/b, Dance 270a/b

Subsidiary Courses

One Science full-course equivalent numbered 200 and above

Note: If only one half-course was selected from Kinesiology 250a/b, 263F/G, 280a/b, 288a/b, 290F/G, 293F/G, 298a/b, Dance 270a/b, then an additional subsidiary half-course must be selected from outside the School of Kinesiology.

Third Year

Principal Courses

A total of three Kinesiology full-course equivalents to be selected as follows:
Two half-courses from Kinesiology 300a, 301b, Dance 275a/b, 276a/b, 277a/b
Kinesiology 330a/b
Kinesiology 337a/b
Kinesiology 343a/b or 353a/b
One half-course from the 202-299, 302-399, 402-499 Kinesiology course series

Subsidiary Courses

One Science full-course equivalent numbered 200 and above

One non-Kinesiology full-course equivalent

Note:By the end of third year students must complete a minimum of one half- course in Introductory Statistics as well as Physiology 130 or Biology 310.

Fourth Year

Principal Courses

A total of three Kinesiology full-course equivalents from the 202-299, 302-399, 400-499 series

The selection must include a minimum of one full-course equivalent, not previously completed, from Kinesiology 343a/b, 353a/b, 433a/b, 440y, 430a/b, 432a/b or 443.

Subsidiary Courses

Two full-course equivalents to be selected as follows:
One Science full-course equivalent numbered 200 and above
The remaining full-course equivalent may be selected from Kinesiology 400a, 401b, Dance 275a/b, 276a/b, 277a/b and/or from courses offered by other faculties

Bachelor of Science Honors Kinesiology students who are either ineligible to progress or elect to leave the honors program and who wish to graduate with an area of concentration in Kinesiology, must transfer to the 3-year BA program. Additional course work may be necessary to meet University and program regulations regarding graduation requirements.
