FOUR-YEAR BSc HONORS ASTRONOMY

Admission Requirements

A complete first year program with:

Principal Courses

Astronomy 020

Calculus 050a/b plus 051a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027.

Physics 020

Students entering or continuing in the Honors Astronomy program are required to consult with the Department for approval of their programs. While Physics 020 is the preferred route, students achieving a mark of 80% or higher in Physics 022, 024, 025 or 026 may apply for special permission to enter the Honors Astronomy Program.

Subsidiary Courses

One course from the faculties of Arts or Social Science. For the remaining course, Computer Science 025a or 026a/b, and 027a/b, or Chemistry 020, or Earth Sciences 020 is suggested.

Second Year

Principal Courses

Four full-course equivalents from the following:
Calculus 250a/b and 251a/b, or the former Applied Mathematics 200
Linear Algebra 040a/b and Differential Equations 215a, or the former Applied Mathematics 212a and 213b
Physics 200, 259E
Two half courses approved by the Department

Subsidiary Courses

The remaining full-course equivalent from the five courses listed above.
