Admission Requirements

Principal Courses

Statistical Sciences 023a/b+
One full course equivalent, chosen from the following: Calculus 050a/b plus 051a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027.
Linear Algebra 040a/b*
Any other full course equivalent (Statistical Sciences 024a/b is strongly recommended)

Subsidiary Courses

Two courses (of which at least one full course must be from Arts or Social Science)

*If Linear Algebra 040a/b is not taken in first year, it must be taken prior to the second term of second year.

+ If Statistical Sciences 023a/b is not taken in first year, students should consult with an academic counsellor in the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences prior to entering second year.

Second Year

Principal Courses

Statistical Sciences 257a
Statistical Sciences 259a/b plus one of 258b or 260b, or the former Statistical Sciences 255.
Mathematics 203b, 207a/b
Either Calculus 250a/b plus Calculus 251a/b, or the former Mathematics 204a plus 205b.

Subsidiary Courses

One and one half courses*

*If Linear Algebra 040a/b is not taken in first year, it must be taken prior to the second term of second year, with a minimum mark of 60%.

Third and Fourth Years

Principal Courses

The following must be completed by the end of fourth year: Mathematics 304a/b, 306a/b, 307b, one and one-half other Mathematics courses numbered 300 or above; one additional half course in Mathematics numbered 200 or above (Applied Mathematics 261b or 325a/b or Differential Equations 215a may be substituted); Statistical Sciences 325a/b, 346a/b, 357a, 358b, 359a/b, 361a/b ; one and one-half additional courses numbered 310 or above in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences. Each of these will be considered as a principal course in the year that it is taken. At least three principal courses must be taken in each of third and fourth years.

Subsidiary Courses

Two other full course equivalents, to bring the total number of courses taken in each year to five courses
Note

To satisfy prerequisite requirements, the above courses must be taken in an appropriate order. Students should consult both the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences before registering.
