Statistical Mechanics: classical and quantum statistics, bosons and fermions, solids, dying stars. Solid state: crystalline and amorphous solids, semiconductor devices, superconductivity nuclear physics: radioactivity, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, fusion reactors. Elementary particles: leptons neutrons, hadrons, quarks, the Big Bang. Especially suitable for students in 3 year programs. |
Antirequisites: Physics 200, the former Physics 256a, 258b, 347a, and 348b. |
Prerequisite: Physics 020, 022, 024, 025 or 026; Calculus 050a/b plus one of 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or Mathematics 030, or the former Applied Mathematics 020 or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027. |
