INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELLING


This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and practices of counselling, focusing on history, theories, techniques, assessment, and ethical considerations. Understanding of the therapeutic process involves interactive discussions, role-playing, video demonstrations, case studies, and critical reflection to gain self-awareness and cultural competence, enhancing capacity to work with diverse populations.

Antirequisite(s): The former Family Studies and Human Development 2235.

Prerequisite(s): Any 0.5 course from any department in the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Anthropology, the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies, the Department of Psychology or the Department of Sociology; or permission of the Department.

Extra Information: 3 lecture/tutorial hours.
