Topics considered may include: evidence and historical hypotheses; causation; counterfactuals in history; historical necessity and contingency; explanation and laws in history; realism and anti-realism about the past; objectivity; narrative and interpretation. Readings may include works by Vico, Kant, Herder, Hegel, Marx, Ranke, and Collingwood.
