The course examines French History from before the French Revolution to recent events and concentrates on the interplay between social and political change as well as between empire and metropole. It covers topics such as revolutions, imperialism and decolonization, the Paris Commune, war, the Vichy Regime, and republicanism.

Prerequisite(s): 0.5 course in Social Science at the 1000-level.
