THE ETHICS OF EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY SATIRE
The lapse of the Licensing Act in 1695 granted unprecedented freedom and latitude to publish vitriolic works of personal acrimony, social criticism, and political partisanship. This course examines contemporary debates on the theory and ethics of satire through verse and prose satires of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
