MATHEMATICAL COMPUTATION


Introduction to mathematical computation. Approximate solution of linear systems, nonlinear systems, and the initial value problem for ODEs. Matrix computations and practical computational complexity. Optimization. Contemporary applications of mathematical computation. Assignments using a computer and mathematical software are an important component of this course.

Prerequisite(s): Mathematics 1700A/B or a minimum mark of 55% in Mathematics 1600A/B. Pre-or Corequisite(s): Calculus 2302A/B, Calculus 2402A/B or Mathematics 2500A/B or Numerical and Mathematical Methods 2276A/B or Numerical and Mathematical Methods 2277A/B or the former Calculus 2502A/B.
