“What does it mean to be modern?” To answer this, we will explore problems of history, language, and genre in the work of writers such as James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Mina Loy, and Samuel Beckett. Student work includes creative writing elements that engage with the course’s technical and thematic concerns.
