Course Description

Physics 141a/b Physics for the Earth and Environmental Sciences

Topics in physics fundamentals needed for applications to the study of the Geosciences: mechanics, elasticity, fluid flow, and thermodynamics. This is a laboratory course for students intending to pursue further studies in the earth and environmental sciences.

Antirequisites: Physics 020, 021, 022, 024, 025, 026.
Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 020, or any two of Earth Sciences 081a/b, 082a/b, 083F, 085a/b, 281b; Mathematics 030 or any two of the following: Calculus 050a/b, 051a/b, 081a/b, Mathematics 028a/b, Linear Algebra 040a/b, Statistical Sciences 024a/b. This course is restricted to students registered in any Environmental Science program (except joint programs with Chemistry) and in the following Geology BSc programs: Three-year BSc Geology, Four-year General BSc Geology, Four-year BSc Honors Geology, Three-year BSc Geology and Environmental Science, and Four Year BSc Honors Geology with Environmental Science.
2 lecture hours, 2 laboratory/tutorial hours.
