FACULTY OF LAW

LLB/MA PROGRAM IN LAW AND PHILOSOPHY

Admission

Application for the combined program should be made during the first year of the LLB program, and acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of that year. During the third year, students must apply in competition with other graduate applicants for admission to graduate school. The MA year (fourth year) is contingent upon admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Program of Study

First Year

The regular first year Law program.

Second and Third Years

The second and third years consist of the Second Year and Third Year LLB Program except that the six credit hours (a full-course equivalent) of non-Law options in each of those years must be applied to courses in Philosophy, approved by the Department of Philosophy and the Dean of Law. These will be chosen in light of the student's background and interests and to complement the student's other studies in Law. Upon completion of third year the student is eligible for the LLB degree.

Fourth Year

The final year consists of an MA Program in Philosophy, except that students may select a program comprising either a) four full courses, or b) three full courses and a thesis. Normal departmental comprehensive examination requirements apply. Course selection, emphasizing philosophy of Law, is subject to departmental approval.
