FOUR-YEAR BSc HONORS BIOLOGY

Admission Requirements

Completion of the requirements for a 3-year BSc in Biology with the general prerequisites for entrance into honors programs in the Biological Sciences.

Fourth Year

Five full-course equivalents selected from the 300- and 400- level courses offered by the departments involved in the Biology Program including 1.5 laboratory courses and with no more than two full course equivalents from any one department. The five courses selected must include three full course equivalents offered by the the Departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology (including Genetics courses), with at least one full course from each of Plant Sciences and Zoology (of which Biology 491E, if taken, counts as a half course from Plant Sciences and a half course from Zoology). Students must also include one of: Biology 491E, Plant Sciences 450a and 451b, or Zoology 450a and 451b, or one full course equivalent from the following list of courses (all of which include a significant demand for scientific communication skills): Plant Sciences 403a, 408b, Zoology 423F/G, 434b, 436G, 440b, 453b.

Note: 200-level courses may only be included in an Honors Biology Program if they complement the 300- and 400-level courses selected. The inclusion of 200-level courses is subject to the approval of the program coordinator(s).

All proposed Honors biology programs must be approved by the Honors Biology Coordinator(s) prior to registration.
