FACULTY OF SCIENCE

REQUIREMENTS FOR FOURTH YEAR IN HONORS BIOLOGY OR ONE OF THE DISCIPLINES OF BIOLOGY

Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a 3-year BSc Biology program, with an overall average of 70% in the last two years and at least a 70% average in the five senior Biology and Medical Sciences courses which make up the area of concentration, with no mark less than 60% in those five courses can proceed to one of the honors programs, provided the necessary course prerequisites (listed below) for that program have been completed at a "B" level.

Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a 3-year BSc Biology program but who do not fulfil the requirements specified for admission, may be allowed to proceed to an honors degree in one of the disciplines of Biology or Medical Sciences only with the special permission of the appropriate Department.

NOTE:

Students who enter Year 4 Honors in any of the following programs effective September 2001, may choose to graduate with either a Four-Year Honors B.Sc. degree or a Four-Year Honors BMSc degree. After September 1, 2003, students in these programs may only graduate with a Four-year Honors BMSc degree:

Biochemistry
Medical Biophysics
Microbiology and Immunology
Pharmacology and Toxicology
Physiology

The requirements of these programs remain the same (see the Department listings for details). Students entering any of these programs must indicate which of these two degrees they would prefer to receive, prior to applying to graduate.

Students who enter Year 4 Honors in the following programs will continue to graduate with a Four-Year Honors B.Sc. degree:

Biology
Biology and Geology
Cell Biology
Ecology and Evolution
Genetics
Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Plant Sciences
Zoology

Caution

Some honors programs have limited enrolment. Students are advised to consult with a biology counsellor for information on programs in which the number of applications for admission may exceed the number of available spaces.
