Admission Requirements
The program in first year must include Biology 022 or 023 with a minimum mark of 60%, and either Chemistry 020 with a minimum mark of 60%, or 023 with a minimum mark of 70%, both as principal courses; Physics 020, 022, 024, or 025; either Calculus 050a/b plus one of 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027. Students are encouraged to include Geography 020E in the first year.
Second Year
Principal Courses
- Chemistry 226a/b, 251, 253, 254
- Statistical Sciences 222a/b or another half-course from Group D
Subsidiary Courses
- Earth Sciences 020 or any two of Earth Sciences 081a/b, 082a/b, 083F, 085a/b, 281b; the recommended combination most closely approximating the content of Earth Sciences 020 is Earth Sciences 082a/b and 085a/b.
Third Year
Principal Courses
- Chemistry 351a, 352a, 353a, 354b, 362b
- Environmental Science 300F/G
- Applied Mathematics 290a, or the former Applied Mathematics 281a
- One half-course from Group B
Subsidiary Course
- One Group E senior half course, or, if Geography 020E was taken in first year, then a Group C senior half course can replace this requirement
- One additional senior half-course from Groups B, C, D, or E, or Chemistry 390a
Fourth Year

- Two additional 400-level Chemistry half-courses
- Chemistry 378b or an additional 400-level Chemistry half-course
- One and one-half senior courses from Groups B through E, no more than one of which can be at the 100-level; a senior course or two senior half courses from Group C and/or E must be included in this total, if not taken previously. A half-course out of the required one and one-half senior courses may be replaced by Chemistry 390a.
